LaLiga 2023-24: Wrap Up

Nieka Ranises

As we head into the final weeks of the Spanish top flight, I have seen multiple rumors ranging from the manager’s dismissal to huge transfers. You might know what I am talking about if you have been in the loop of following LaLiga this season.

There have been some hot topics that I will be covering in this article and will talk about how it can impact the upcoming season. Now, without further ado, let’s dive right into them.

The Race for Pichichi is Almost Over

Real Madrid to Get Mbappe’s Signature

The World Cup winner and Ligue 1 player of the year has long been flirting with the Spanish giants but he didn’t commit to serve Real Madrid. This year his contract is expiring and the teams from around the globe want to get his signatures. And why not? He is a sensational player who can turn games around on his own.

Though he failed to do the same for PSG, he has done it for the French national team on multiple occasions (throwback to the 2022 FIFA World Cup). Seeing this, the most likely next destination for the French striker is Real Madrid.

There are two reasons to choose this club over a plethora of other clubs: the first one is that he is most likely to win the Ballon d’Or award if he is in a Spanish side like the mighty Real Madrid. The other reason is that there are a few teams that have great finances like Real Madrid who can support his hefty wages.

So, all in all, we will most likely see Real Madrid grabbing his signature and almost finishing the competition in the league because of the mess at their competitor’s Football Club Barcelona.

The Mess at the FC Barcelona

Back in March when the team was struggling, Xavi (manager at FC Barcelona) decided to leave the team at the end of the season. A whole lot was going on behind the scenes (which is still the same) but President Joan Laporta somehow convinced Xavi to stay.

Fast forward to May, Xavi spoke to the media and stated the financial situation of Barcelona. This was to keep the expectations of the fans low but this angered Laporta and according to reports from senior Spanish journalists, Xavi is about to lose his job.

The most annoying thing about this saga is that Xavi is saying that everything is the same while the reports suggest otherwise. Laporta thinks that Xavi has betrayed him. According to Laporta, Xavi was fine with the squad he had apart from some tweaks in the team but in front of the media, his words make it seem like the team isn’t that good.

Apart from this issue, the situation of Roque is pretty screwed. The board had him come early in January without consulting Xavi (this is speculation but it sounds true because of the game time Xavi is giving Vitor Roque).

Being a Barca fan, I am really disappointed with the board. Anyhow, I am all set to dive into the action with my Spectrum service which is by far my ideal choice for all the telecom needs whether it’s TV, phone, or home WiFi. As a cherry on top, they provide Spectrum servicio al cliente specifically tailored for Spanish speakers living in the US.

Cadiz, Granada, and Almeria to Be Relegated

After enjoying a couple of seasons in the LaLiga, the trio of Cadiz, Granada, and Almeria will bid a temporary farewell.

Almeria is at the bottom of the table with just two matches won out of 37 while drawing 12 and losing 23 times in the league.

Granada being the silver medalist from the bottom won just four matches while drawing nine times and losing on 24 occasions.

Now, the topper of the relegation is Cadiz who disrupted the best teams in LaLiga a few seasons ago and has won just six times, drawn 15 times, and lost 16 times.

The Race for Pichichi is Almost Over

In the last night clash between Villareal and Real Madrid, the two teams had a draw with just players on the scoresheet of 4-4.

Arda Guler had his brace completed in the first half of the match alongside goals coming from Lucas Vazquez, Joselu, and Villareal’s Alexander Sorloth.

Little did the fans know, three more goals were yet to come from the opponent’s winger/striker Alexander Sorloth.

Before this clash, Sorloth was sitting 3rd on goals scored but after the double brace against Real Madrid, he is now the top scorer of LaLiga with two goals between him and Girona’s Artem Dovbyk.  I am not ruling out that Dovbyk can score a brace to tie against Sorloth for Pichichi but it’s difficult to happen. So, it will likely be Alexander Sorloth.
